How does this work?

The process is really straightforward. In a nutshell, you send me your track, song or brief. I then record the drums for it at my studio and send you back the audio files ready to use in your software. Simple! Here’s the breakdown:

Discuss your project with me

Communication is key. Having a chat about the drum part, feel and sound ensures we line up your ideas with my performance, gear choice and recording set up. Sending me either a programmed drum part or sheet music is also recommended if you have those available.

I record your tracks

The fun part. As standard I will record three whole takes - the first as per your programmed drums, sheet music or communicated ideas. The second typically with a few alternate ideas and the third throwing caution to the wind a little more. (We can discuss alternate options but this tends to work really well). I then send you an mp3 drum mix of the three takes for you to check out before paying anything.

The benefits of going remote

Remote sessions have become an increasingly popular choice for many people today as it is a time efficient and more cost effective way of recording musicians for your project. In my studio everything is permanently set up, plumbed in and ready to go, meaning I can walk in and be recording in a matter of minutes. I know how my instruments, the sound of my room and my recording equipment work together having spent a great deal of time honing my craft to achieve the best sounds I can from both technical and playing perspectives. All this you benefit from when booking a session with me - essentially a recording studio, engineer and drummer in one.

Things to be aware of

You are very welcome to attend the session at my studio if you can! But if not, the remote nature of this service does mean we don’t have the real time communication that we might otherwise have in a traditional studio setting with other parties present (eg. “hey, that fill there - can we do the same thing at the end of the chorus but add more toms?”). So if being involved with the creative process at this level is essential then I would recommend attending the session in person.

Both music and recording are an art form. So think of this remote recording service like you are commissioning a painter. You can tell them what you want painted and what sort of style - even giving them an existing painting or photo to copy - but ultimately the end product and artistry is in the hands of the painter. Hopefully you have chosen that painter in the first place because you like their existing work and want what they can bring to the table also.
